FACT stands for The Fertilisers And Chemicals Travancore Limited. It is a Government of India enterprise with its roots in Kochi, Kerala.
History & Ownership
FACT was incorporated in 1943, making it one of India’s older fertilizer-industry outfits. Production at its Udyogamandal site began in 1947.
It later became a Public Sector company; the Government of India became the major shareholder in 1962. FACT is now under the administrative control of the Department of Fertilisers, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers, Government of India.
Operations & Units
FACT operates multiple units and divisions including:
- Udyogamandal Complex (its original/main fertilizer-plant site).
- Cochin Division based at Ambalamedu near Kochi Refineries.
- Engineering & Consultancy Division (FEDO – FACT Engineering & Design Organisation).
- Fabrication Division (FEW – FACT Engineering Works).
Over time, FACT has added petrochemical capacity (for example a Caprolactam facility) alongside its fertilizer-plants.
